Cut the Military Budget by 25% - At Least!,  3/19. About 75-100 of us were at the Montgomery BART station, one of the 28 BART stations that saw actions, vigils, and leafletting by a variety of antiwar forces throughout the Bay Area.

We had poetry from Jack Hirschman, SF poet laureate emeritus. We had prose from Rebecca Solnit, writer extraordinaire. We had music from Mokai, marvelous movement artist. Then we had a few words from the Iraq Moratorium-SF Bay Area, announcing the kickoff of our campaign to move our nine-county Congresspeople into signing on to House Financial Services chair ("the bailout czar") Barney Frank's proposal to cut the US military budget by 25% at least!)

Then Dan Ellsberg provided some tonic for the troops, and we took Market Street while about one hundred cops stood and watched in formation. We held the street for about 30 minutes. We had about 20 arrests, including two arrests by Dan alone! We got some great media - in our infrequent forays into CD, we always make sure to find out when the local press prefers to report on breaking stories - in our neck of the woods, noontime is prime time to get on the evening news and to prime a story for the next day\'s paper.
