The Pentagon/Crystal City: I'm Jeff Bartos, Secretary of the Connecticut Chapter of Iraq Veterans Against the War. Saturday, March 21, I went to Washington DC to join a crowd of 4,000-7,000(estimate) people in marching on the Pentagon and on the headquarters of the merchants of death, General Dynamics, KBR, and Lockheed Martin. There were approximately 30 members of IVAW present for the march. This day marked the 6th anniversary of the War in Iraq, an occupation which has left 4,260 US soldiers dead and over 30,000 physically wounded.
Despite Pres. Obama's campaign pledge to pull out of Iraq, he has formed a strategy that would leave up to 50,000 US troops in country for an indefinite basis, creating a further drain on the US economy and continuing the Occupation in a politically friendly manner, while shifting the "war on terror" to Afghanistan. These lies cannot continue. There were several thousand protesters and many groups present for the march. A strong anti-war sentiment exists in this country, whether it be against the illegal occupation in Iraq, the mismanaged war in Afghanistan, the growing aggression towards Pakistan and Iran, or Israel's occupation of Palestine. Activists of all beliefs need to come forward and unite with a single voice of protest. NO MORE WAR! TV news report on the march.
